The Downers Grove Music Club has a long-standing history of supporting student music education. One of our great traditions is the Student Piano Festival and Competition. Participating students receive invaluable experience and constructive critiques from experienced judges. Top ranked participants from the competition are invited to perform at an annual Honors Recital and compete further for cash awards.
The music club sponsored its first Student Piano Festival and Competition in 1943 to challenge and encourage local student musicians.
Over the years, the Festival and Competition has become an established part of the music community in west suburban Chicago, with over 100 students participating each year.
Area piano teachers are invited to enter their students in this annual event sponsored by the Downers Grove Music Club. Here are key dates for the 2020 Piano Festival & Competition:
- Registrations are now being accepted online
- Entries due: February 7, 2020 (no extensions!)
- Festival and Competition (all students): Sunday, March 8, 2020, Community United Methodist Church, 20 Center Street, Naperville IL
- Honors Recitals (selected students): Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm, Downers Grove Public Library
